Ugg Trainers

We’re feeling a bit behind the times here at More Than Shoes as we’ve only just realised that Ugg now sell Converse lookalike trainers. We’ve not had a chance to play with a pair yet but we’re guessing that they are a lot higher quality that a pair of Converse and will last a lot longer! With Uggs trademark sheepskin lining then at least we know these will be comfy and warm!

What do you guys make of them? Cool or a step too far for Ugg? Have you spotted any on the street?

The History of Ugg

Maybe this is a bit of a dramatic title but it’s inspired by a great article in the Telegraph about Ugg and their history http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-features/TMG8283572/The-story-of-Ugg.html

So much about the history of Ugg boots seems to be shrouded in mystery. Did they first create the iconic design, was it Emu or was it just some surfers who were looking for a way to warm up after surfing? Whoever it was, they spawned the  creation of one of the most iconic brands in footwear that has gone on to conquer the world!

As well as creating one of the biggest footwear brands, Ugg has also created one of the most copied/pirated products on the high street. According to the article, 20,000 pairs were confiscated in Britain last year. Even at £20 a pair this would be £400,000 worth! This market was created due to the massive demand for the product coupled with the upwards of £200 price for some of the styles.

So, what is the future of Ugg? Well after appearing in nearly every store in the UK high street, they have decided to limit the number of retailers with accounts to try and revive the exclusivity of their products. A risky strategy for sure but clearly they have done a good job of getting their brand where they want it and don’t want to become the next Crocs!

Ugg Boots

Probably the biggest opinion divider in the fashion, Ugg boots have recently got much more trendy and mainstream with their offering. The Classic Uggs were and are a strange phenomenon. They are big, cosy, warm and comfortable, which makes them great for winter, yet they aren’t waterproof and can get badly marked when there’s salt and grit on the roads. The plus side is clearly winning because they are the biggest brand of boots in the UK these days and they can only get bigger with their recent releases.

Thanks to Schuh, we have a selection of new models to show you:

UGG Joslyn

A good chunk of wedge heel, side zip and lovely sheepskin cuff make this a much more viable option when considering fashion and warmth this winter!

Ugg Kensington

The solution for those people wanting a biker boot but also wanting comfort and warmth!

Ugg Leona

This, in our opinion, is the ultimate fashionable Ugg boot of the moment. lovely soft leather means that it’s waterproof and salt proof and it looks great! With a sheepskin/leather cuff it keeps to the original Ugg concept but somehow manages to come across as a very classy boot.

If Ugg keep up with more new designs like these then they will be dominating the boot market for many years to come.
